Historic Gardens and Designed Landscapes
The UK has a rich legacy of historic gardens and designed landscapes including estates and monuments that are part of our landscape, culture and natural environment.
The remains of historic gardens and designed landscapes can be difficult to identify and understand.
They comprise hard landscape features, such as walled gardens, built structures or earthworks, and soft features including parterres, veteran trees and ornamental arrangements of flower beds
Our specialist team are able to research, survey, interpret and assess the significance of all types of designed landscape, including gardens, parks, and cemeteries. We work with our clients to help shape and deliver historic landscape projects.
We regularly work with Lidar data, maps of historic landscapes and the interpretation of potential archaeological features that are identified.
services we provide:
- Heritage Consultancy to prepare and co-ordinate the production of Conservation Management Plans, Heritage Assessments and Archaeological Desk-based Assessments.
- Appraisals of Historic Landscapes (comprising site survey and documentary research);
- Garden and Parkland Surveys (including gazetteers of historic features and elements);
- Archaeological recording and analysis of garden structures (both extant and buried – including geophysical survey; Lidar; archaeological excavation and analytical earthwork survey)
Our team have previously worked on projects at Feldon Lodge Historic Garden, Chirk Castle Estate, Lilford Hall Estate, Rainthorpe Hall Registered Park and Garden and Trentham Gardens (Capability Brown).
